Zetas steal firearms from Guatemalan government

In a rather unfortunate turn of events, Los Zetas are spreading their influence into Central America. Over the past three years the nacro group has stolen a sizable amount of military hardware from the Guatemalan Government. This article details it rather nicely:

When the current president of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, took office in 2006, he was pressured by the United States to take a more aggressive stance on the “war on drugs.” With this intent, Calderon dispatched thousands of troops throughout the nation to fight los narcotráficantes and their organizations, particularly in regions closer to the U.S.-Mexican border.

According to cnn.com, as of August 2010 the current death toll has risen to 28,000.

This blog will examine the U.S./Mexico drug trade, in the hopes of better understanding this multi-billion dollar enterprise.
